Catheters may sometimes need to be
placed into large veins through the skin. The
catheter differs from the port in that its end
is left outside the skin; the tube enters the
body through a small puncture. Catheters can
have up to three inner lines so that different
solutions—medication or nourishment, for
example—can be given concurrently.
To support radiation therapy , an
operation can be performed to implant
catheters that are subsequently loaded with a
radio emitter.
• To treat complications Tumors or their
treatments often suppress the immune
system. This can lead to infections, bowel
perforations or obstructions that may
require surgical treatment.
